How to calculate your shipments carbon emissions output
Understanding how shipping goods contributes to global carbon emissions is becoming more important than ever, with the freight industry contributing to 7% of those emissions globally.
On WebCargo, you can view a calculation of the emissions created based on your shipment parameters, before placing an eBooking. The emissions are calculated by the airline's systems or by using Freightos’ carbon emissions calculator.
How you can view your shipment’s carbon emissions output
The calculations can be seen on the search results page when making a search for live rates and capacity. Look out for the below-highlighted section which explains how the CO2 emissions are calculated and gives an estimated average of the CO2 based on the cargo weight and dimensions.
If an airline offers its own CO2 calculation, you’ll also be able to see this within the rate card. This estimate is pulled directly from the airline’s website, along with the live rate, via an API connection.
If the airline doesn’t offer this calculation, a detailed CO2 summary can be seen on the review and book page after selecting your rate. Hover above the leaf icon, and you’ll be shown a breakdown of the estimated total carbon emissions using Freightos’ emissions calculator.
