How is payment for duties managed?
Here’s how payment for duties is managed:
1. If the forwarder is handling customs clearance, they’ll let you know the duties amount after your shipment arrives at the destination port and you’ll pay them directly. This is relevant for Express shipments and all shipments to destinations other than the US.
2. For most US Air and Ocean imports, our third-party broker, Clearit USA, handles customs clearance. The Clearit team will determine the duties amount based on the HS code included in your commercial invoice and then add them to your Shipment Page. You might have to pay duties before your shipment arrives at the destination.
If you think the duties amount or the HS code used is incorrect, please reach out to the Clearit team for assistance.
