What is an HS or HTS code?

HS Codes, also known as HTS Codes or Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System, refer to a standardized international classification system used for globally traded products.

The HS code is what determines how much you'll owe in customs duties. Many times your supplier will provide the HS code, but if not, your freight forwarder or customs broker can help you identify the correct one for your product. To avoid unnecessary delays, ensure you have the HS code before you ship.

Please check with your supplier to determine the proper HS code. After you book your shipment, your customs broker will also be able to help.

In the meantime, you can check out our HS code Lookup & Finder, which is just one of our many helpful Freight Tools.

Make sure you have the correct code because you are liable should any issues arise.
