When arranging for a shipment to be processed, the forwarder you choose will need to know the details of the consignor and consignee. Please ensure you reach out to your forwarder and broker and inform them of this information.
Consignor
The consignor is the person or entity that is responsible for exporting the goods being shipped. This could be the factory where the goods are manufactured, a sourcing agent who handles the export process, or the location where the goods originate from.
Consignee
The consignee is the person or entity that is responsible for importing the goods being shipped. They are also responsible for paying any duties and additional freight charges. This could be the buyer of the goods, a client, or the final destination for the goods.
If the goods are being shipped to a third party, like Amazon, or if they stop at an inspection service before reaching the final destination, these parties are not the consignee. The importer of record (IOR) is the consignee.
If you are shipping EXW or FOB, the consignee is responsible for freight charges once the consignor hands off the goods to the forwarder.
