How to use the currency converter tool

How to use the currency converter tool

Within your account, you have access to a currency converter tool that contains the most up-to-date information about the latest exchange rates. As well as having these rates available, you can also add your own exchange rates if they differ from those being fed into the system.

Important: This is only available for Rate & Quote pack types

You can find this tool first on the homepage after logging in.

Here, you can choose from the most commonly used exchange rates and enter the quantity you want to exchange.

Once you've entered it, click on Calculate.

You’ll be taken to the Currency Converter tool, where you can see the exchange rate for the quantity you entered, the exchange rate, and the total of the exchange in the desired currency.

Easily change the quantity, the currencies, and also select a date from the past if you want to compare previous exchange rates.

You can also enter your own rate if you have a different one to the market standard and click Calculate. The system will automatically calculate this for you and give you the total.

You have access to a more detailed currency converter tool within your paid Rate & Quote pack, where you can save your own exchange rate, download and import exchange rates. To access this tool, either click on Settings then select Currencies, or use the search bar by entering Currencies and select it from the dropdown.

From the Origin Currency dropdown, you can select the currency to search with and the currency you want to compare it against in the Destination currency.

By clicking Search, you’ll see the current market rate for those two currencies, as well as when the rate was last updated.

Important: the exchange rate is updated 4 times a day through an API connection with Open Exchange.

If you have a separately negotiated or different exchange rate, you can enter it in the Negotiated rate box. Once entered, the Last updated date will update and you will also see a green tick which indicates the negotatied rate is now live on your account.

This rate will now be shown when using the Currency converter tool on the homepage. To change it back to the Market rate, go back and remove the rate in the Negotiated rate box. It will automatically revert back to the original exchange rate.

Seeing all exchange rates for a particular currency

To see all currency exchange rates for a particular currency you can do this by selecting the Origin currency, and leaving the Destination country box empty, then click Search.

You can subsequently download all rates shown for the selected currency and all destination currency exchange reates too. Start the download by clicking on the Download Excel symbol. The download will start automatically.

Open the file to see the spreadsheet with all exchange rates.

Importing your exchange rates from an Excel file

If you have other exchange rates you have negotiated elsewhere, you can mass upload using the Import function. To do this, use the file downloaded earlier with the same column headers shown in the Download Excel file.

Add your rate in the Rate column - do not enter anything in the Last updated or Custom rate column.

Save your file, then go back to the WebCargo system, and click on Import currency

Select the previously saved file. You can choose to also delete all previous registers so that you only have the exchange rates shown in Excel, too. Once you’ve uploaded the file, click Import.

Important: Bear in mind that if you import exchange rates, the live exchange rate which is fed into the system will stop syncing, and you’ll need to manually update your own exchange rates when needed. We recommend that you have a dedicated member of the team who maintains these exchange rates if you go down this route.

Once you’ve imported your exchange rates, the box should state Finished if it was successful. You’ll then be able to search and find the uploaded negotiated rates. If there were any issues or the upload wasn’t successful, you will be shown an error message.
